Palmyra Oriental continues a family tradition of selecting handmade rugs, kilims, and textiles from across the East.
Our Story
Palmyra Oriental grew from a family connection to rugs and textiles, carried from Aleppo to a gallery in Istanbul. What stayed constant is the work itself: looking closely, selecting carefully, and presenting each piece honestly.
What We Select
We curate Persian, Turkish, Afghan, and Caucasian rugs, along with kilims, soumak flatweaves, cushions, and collectible special pieces. We do not weave the rugs ourselves. We select, study, document, and present handmade and culturally meaningful pieces.
How We Work
We don't simply list rugs. We help customers choose — by size, room, material, origin, and budget — and we're glad to send extra photos and video, explain what a piece is, and advise on what fits a space.
Our Promise
We explain what we know, we are honest about what we do not know, and we help each customer find a piece that fits both the space and the story of the home. In writing, that comes down to eight promises.

We describe only what we can verify.
If we do not know a rug’s age, origin or dyes, we say we do not know. We would rather be dull than wrong.
We never sell a machine-made rug as hand-knotted.
Every rug is photographed from the back, where the difference is visible, and you get that photograph before you pay.
One retail price, shown.
The same price for a visitor standing in the shop and a buyer abroad. No haggling, because there is nothing built in to haggle away.
Condition stated in full.
Wear, thin areas, repairs, restoration and colour run. Photographed, not just mentioned.
Measured to the centimetre.
At both ends and both sides, because handmade rugs are rarely true rectangles.
Shipping, duty and tax explained in writing before you pay.
With an estimate for your country, so there is no surprise when the courier calls.

If the rug was not as we described it, the return shipping is ours.
